Diagnosed today

I was diagnosed today with SBC. They already know it has spread to my lung, but I don't know about any further. I am absolutely terrified, have no idea what to expect, except that I have to have the fluid drained of my lung next week.

I have been given no other advice or support and don't know where to turn. I feel like a big baby, plenty of other people must have ben through the same thing, but I haven't even been told if it is treatable.

How do other people cope?

  • Hi there. My mum has got secondary breast cancer in the lung, liver and bones. She had a drain on her lung and was put on meds. (Sorry can't spell them) and she is getting on great now. Bearing in mind she is 71 and had been clear of cancer for 10 years she was not hopeful when diagnosed but she is doing so well and has even gone back to work 2 days a week. The treatments today are so good, you can live with cancer for longer. I was diagnosed 5 yrs ago in breast and bone and I have managed on Tamoxifen and denosumab. Try not to stress most secondary cancers may not be cureable but they can be controlled.  Good luck. Stay safe. Xx

  • Thank you so much, you have made me cry again, but your message feels me with hope x

  • Bless you. Hope is good. And emotions are what keeps us going. Nothing wrong with a good cry either. You will get there, and we are all here for you. X

  • Hi Jud3, I was diagnosed in October 20 with secondaries in my right lung, sternum ribs and spots in sacrum after 19 years cancer freedom.  I have had my lung drained twice before this diagnosis ( i had a talc pleuradesis snd haven’t looked back) I have been on Letrozole and Ibrance since November 20 and went back to work full time then. It’s been a long journey ( never had anxiety before but learning to cope with it) but apart from itching and hair thinning- feeling ok. Coming on here intermittently helps but am feeling positive most of the time and you will to eventually. Sending you positive thoughts xx

  • Thank you so much. Hearing you are able to continue with work on treatment sounds positive. I think, if nothing else I will have to learn to manage anxiety better. :) Good luck with your on going treatment.. xx

  • Once you know what you are dealing with ( in small chuncks) it gets better. xx
