I was diagnosed with Stage III IDC in Feb 2022 and unfortunately the disease metastasised to my brain in November 2022 and I have been told it is terminal.

I have completed whole brain radiation and disease is now being managed by meds (Letrozole & Abemaciclib).

we have recently booked a holiday to Lanzarote for Jun/Jul 2023 and would like to know what other people in a similar situation have done about travel insurance?

Has anyone been able to obtain insurance and if so, the name of the company?
Has anyone been abroad without taking out insurance?

I was recommended Staysure but their on line quotation site states they will not cover people with a terminal illness.

Any recommendations or advice would be greatly appreciated

  • Hi

I hope you don't mind me replying, as I'm not a member of this group, but the title of your post caught my eye.

Unfortunately, as you've found, it can be harder to find travel insurance when you've had a cancer diagnosis so can I suggest that you come and join us over in the travel insurance group where you can find recommendations from others who have successfully obtained travel insurance that doesn't cost more than the holiday!

Once you've joined look for the thread called 'Recommended Travel Insurance' as that's where the majority of recommendations are. You might also want to look at this thread as it includes a link to a Travel Insurance Directory.

  • I would try boots insurance or insurewith. The latter is a specialist in cancer. The only thing you are not insured against is something that could reasonably have been predicted before you left. A telephone conversation to book insurance is probably better. as then you have conveyed all the relevant information to the insurer and have better protection for your holiday

    • Hi I tried insurancewith but they wouldn’t cover me because I also have a slowly growing meningioma (begging tumour in lining of brain). Allclear did cover me though. It was £530 but for me worth it to have confidence that I am fully covered. Have a wonderful holiday. X
