Constant vomiting

Hi,

My wife Nikki is currently undergoing treatment for secondary breast cancer and am concerned for her.
Diagnosis in August 2015, lumpectomy, chemotherapy, radiotherapy treatment.
Secondary diagnosis October 2022. Current treatment is Letrozole, Abemaciclib and Zoladex.

We went on holiday to Florida at the beginning of May. Towards the end of the holiday Nikki was sick (clear fluid) during the night. On and off she has been sick up until this week. When on Thursday she started to constantly be sick. We visited the oncology suite after talking to the emergency oncology unit yesterday. The nurse is thinking it is a bug she caught, given fluid and some IV medication. We came home and no real change, lots of sickness. She started taking prescribed anti sickness medication this morning. How long does it take to work as the nurse said give it a few days but we’re thinking of taking her to A&E tomorrow if no improvement.

Her quarterly scan is due in 9 days too. Anyone know of someone who has experienced frequent vomiting with this treatment and how long does it take for anti-sickness medication to work?

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community and, although I'm not a member of this group, I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.

I hope the anti-sickness medication is beginning to take effect but, if not, do contact the oncology suite again as there are different types which they can try your wife with.

While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could put something about your wife's diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. • Sorry to hear about your wife . I’m also on these drugs and have been for 21 months except zoladex and have liver mets. I’m currently stable. How long has she been on this treatment and where are her mets? I’ve had similar episodes on holiday last year throwing up bile and had phases of feeling really sick at home too. I take lansaprozarole now which has really helped and kefir daily. Might be worth checking with the nurse . I didn’t feel like I had acid though but who cares if it works! I’d always check before taking anything new though but I’m sure you know that! Maybe it was worse on holiday due to fresh orange, odd fizzy drinks etc, I know I probably had things I wouldn’t have at home . The nurse said a few people on these drugs are now taking lansaprozarole who weren’t before so it must be a side effect. Hope this helps and she feels better soon. It’s worth speaking to the nurse or oncologist about acid. Xx

  • Hi @SammyHarry

Sorry to hear you had sickness.
Nikki has been on her first line of treatment for her secondaries in her bones (small spots in her spine). Taking Abemaciclib and Letrozole daily, with Zoladex injections monthly.
Still no change, Nikki is unable to hold down even water. So we're taking her to A&E.

  • Thank you  I have updated my profile.

  • Hi again

I noticed in your reply to Sammyharry that you say you're taking your wife to A&E. I realise you might already have done this but, if not, I'd speak to the oncology suite first.

  • I spoke to oncology this morning. The nurse suggested A&E.

  • Oh that’s awful. I think a and e is the best place as it’s been a few days and she’ll end up getting dehydrated . I hope they get to the bottom of it and I’m sure they will get her rehydrated.  Please let us know how she gets on and you look after yourself too xx

  • A 12 hour hospital visit at A&E. Not good news. The CT scan has shown things around the bladder and chest area.

  • I’m so sorry . Pensive

I assume they’re thinking it’s more Mets but hopefully it’s not. If it is, I’m sure they’ll get the treatment right . . I hope they’ve managed to control the sickness. I assume Nikki’s last scan was stable.  I found out on my last scan that one of my mets on my liver (1 of 2 was a cyst!). They thought for 2 years it was a tumour on CT but when they did MRI it was a cyst! Just hoping it’s something else in Nikki’s case with these new areas of concern. Take care and if you can or want to , please keep us undated. I’m so sorry you’re both going through this especially so young . I’m only 53 (46 at first diagnosis)and it can be so daunting for the patient and partner. My partner said he feels like he’s got it too as we are one. Cry Take care and I’ll have everything crossed for you both xx

  • So sorry to read this  . I hope they'll get a treatment plan in place soon and, in the meantime, get your wife's sickness under control.

    ((hugs))
