Hi, I hope everyone is doing well. My wife has secondary breast cancer with bone, liver and lymph node mets.

She is on her 3rd line of treatment which is Eribulin, she has been on this treatment for the past 3 months. She had a scan around 8 weeks ago to see if the treatment is working correctly. At the appointment to get the results we were given great news that her liver mets had gone from 48mm to 16mm, bone meta were stable and lymph node 34mm down to 13mm, as you can imagine we were very happy with this positive progress.

she then received a call from her oncologist saying that we need to do a scan as her treatment cycle is coming to an end, we mentioned that a scan had just been done and he seemed to have no knowledge of this and booked another.

She then had the scan last week and a call this week to discuss the results and was advised that the liver mets had gone from 54mm to 47mm but everything is stable!! And she will stay on the same treatment.

we are now very concerned if the liver mets on the previous scan were 16mm and now they are 47mm the treatment clearly isn’t working, we are now in a very confused position and don’t know what to think.

we have an appointment on Monday next week, has anyone had an experience like this I don’t know how they can do this to people in such difficult circumstances.

apologies for the long rambling message but yet again we’re looking for some hope and reassurance.

thanks in advance for taking the time to read this.

  • Hi,  I haven't had exactly the same as this, but one time the radiologist 'forgot' to size the main tumour but had commented on the mets.  I asked if I could meet someone from radiology to go through my latest scan in detail, which the breast care nurse set up for me.  I only asked for this as I knew someone else (from a support group I go to) regularly asks to meet with a radiologist to go through her scans in more detail.  It might be an option for you and your wife?  At least that way, you're talking to someone who can interpret the scans and from my limited knowledge, they can display both scans side by side to compare them and show you.  Definitely write down any questions and sizes you want clarity on (worth passing this onto the breast care nurse if that's how your hospital works).

  • Hey Flamingo Flyer, thank you so much for reaching out. We have an appointment on Monday to see what they say, we’re both very apprehensive now when we thought everything was going great, now not so much.

its my wife’s life there dealing with and it feels like she’s just another number which makes me sad and angry.

main concern is do they know themselves what there talking about! Yes will definitely will take your advice and at least ask.

    thanks again and take care
