but at moment suffering with awful rib pain when moving ! Fine when sitting or lying in bed ! Codeine phosphate does not seem to be helping - anyone had similar pain and help how to relieve !

I am just hoping treatment will start to help! I’ve had enough now !

  • Hi Winship, l know what that pain feels like. I have secondary bone cancer in a lot of places but the main on is in my spine.I seemed to have the same story as you it took a few trips to doctors before i got sent to hospital last February. I had surgery in May to stabilise my bones then Radiotherapy. Mine was just like yours when sitting it was fine but moving around was painful. It really just takes time, the radiotherapy really helped me but you must be patient it can take up to 6 weeks before the relief from radiotherapy works I had one big dose instead of 6 small ones they are using this method for bone cancers now as they are more effective. So really all you can do is get better painkillers from your GP, plenty of rest this does help to keep the inflammation down and wait for the radiotherapy to kick in.A few people on here have used hot and cold treatment, heat up the area with hot water  bottle then cool it down with frozen peas they swear by it i have not used this method as its in my spine and a bugger to reach haha hope this helps keep safe x

  • Thankyou for reply - it’s just good to hear from someone with similar symptoms, I’ll keep going with pain killers and hope when start treatment for improvement x

I can't stress enough how much heat helps me with bone pain in the ribs, collarbone and spine. Like wino said, it's hard to get heat to your spine but I found that Argos/Amazon etc are now selling three foot long and maybe six inches wide hot water bottles which are cracking for the spine - mine cost £20 but you can buy one for £25 which includes ribbons for tying it around the waist/ribcage. I went for the cheap one with the intention of sewing my own ribbons on and saving the fiver for wine but haven't got round to it yet.

Anyway, hot water bottle, definitely. I start the night in bed with one against my lower back and then, when it's worked its magic there, I balance it on my collarbone and fall asleep with it there. I use the long one behind me when sitting watching TV - it's so comfortable. I reach for a hot water bottle before dihydrocodeine every time now - it's quicker to work and lasts for as long as you can be arsed to keep filling the kettle!
