My oncologist said I would start chemotherapy on the 15th of January, but i am not sure what this means. Do I get some kind of pre-introduction to the unit? I have not been sent any appointments ! I do know that I am receiving 4 cycles of Herceptin and TC but that is as far as it goes. Any insights?

  • Hi Beechtree,

I wish you luck with your treatment. I had a prechemo meeting with one of the chemo nurses about a week before chemo started. She talked my through what to expect. I was so booked in for a picc line about a week and a bit before as I was receiving EC chemotherapy so that is especially hard on your veins. You may not need a picc line for your treatment.

    Take care xx

  • Hi

I wish you the best with your treatment too.

and I started our chemo treatment at the same time in September and we both have our last infusion in the next few days.

We have had same drugs but slightly different side effects. You have to consent to Chemo so they should sit down with you and go through the risks and side effects of your particular drug. They will make sure you have time for questions. The Breast Cancer Now site has monthly chemo threads - so it might be an idea to join the January thread and you can then chat to people going through the same thing at the same time.

It was nowhere near as bad as I expected if that helps.

  • The start date is likely to be the date of your first infusion. Some units offer a chance to go in for a session with the nurses a few days before, if you wish. They will take you through dos and don’ts on the day of treatment.

  • that is good to know, thank you, but no formal communication about start date  9 ie appt) or appts with chemo nurses.

  • I am starting EC -t chemo on 15th Jan. I have read a little about it. I would really appreciate your thoughts on how it’s been so far/what to expect. I am having it every 2 weeks for 8 cycles.
