Hi I've recently been diagnosed with DCIS and I'm currently waiting on genetic tests to determine if I need a single or double mastectomy. I'm a freelance writer, so I'm trying to work out how much time I need to take off to recover as I won't have any additional income.
Can anyone share roughly how long they needed before they felt they could work again? I know everyone's experience will be different and impacted by a range of factors. However, if anyone can share their experience, let me know.
I had a double mastectomy with immediate reconstruction. I had implants. My recovery was good. The drains were the major problem but they came out after 2 to 3 weeks. It was the chemo treatment that followed that knocked me back.
I think it will depend on what further treatment you have. Also a Diep flap is a longer recovery
All the best
Hi, I had the option to work from home and be very flexible with my time and, whilst I only had a lumpectomy, I could have been back doing some light work after a few days (I had booked 5 weeks off as recommended) But as you already acknowledge, we're all very different. Best wishes with your planning and surgery
I presume you are home based?
I work from home and didn’t have any time off after mastectomy.
