I have just had a mammogram and ultrasound and been told straight away that I have a cancerous lump! Now had biopsy and waiting for results for next steps. Obviously I’m worried about what they have found but particularly because they were able to tell me straight away it was cancer. Does this signify anything?
Hi Crobins02 , welcome to the forum, and just to say that I had the same experience. The doctor who examined me at the breast clinic before any scans said it definitely felt suspicious and when I saw her again later that morning, after mammograms, ultrasounds and biopsies, said that the images definitely looked like cancer. The biopsy results confirmed this.
But here I am, nearly 7 years later, so far so good! I had surgery, radiotherapy and ongoing hormone therapy (details in my profile). I didn’t love any of the treatments but I’m grateful that so far it all seems to have been successful!
I really would try not to read anything into the fact that they could tell you straight away. I don’t know what factors mean they can’t tell so easily (I’m not a medic) but also don’t know if clinics have different policies about how much they say at that first appointment. I think I’m glad that I knew straight away as I could start the process of accepting my cancer diagnosis. Love and hugs, HFxx
Thank you for responding! I think we read into everything that is said and done at this stage! I agree, I’m now not waiting for confirmation, I’m at the next stage of finding out what it is, so I can get my head round it all. Thank you again for taking the time to respond. Wishing you love and luck for your future x
Hello Crobins02
Exactly the same thing happened to me 3 weeks ago. They told me they could tell from the images and it was confirmed with biopsy results a week later.
With hindsight I am glad they gave me the heads up a week early as I had more time to process.
Mine is invasive ductal breast cancer and the lump 3.5cm.
I am.just waiting to see if her2 positive as this will determine if I have operation first or chemo first. They have already booked my op for next week.
I hope you're OK. It is a lot to take in but keen uus updated on here. Its good to talk to other people going through similar things...x
Andrea
