Should I have chemotherapy?

Hello there, I've found myself in a very confusing situation. Having had a lumpectomy and re-incision for IDC (Level 1, Grade 3) I am now in discussions regarding follow up treatment. Both my Oncotype (21) and K167 (20%) results are borderdline for chemo prior to radio and immunotherapy - in a way, it would be easier if both results had been more decisive so that I could just get on with it one way or the other! So, I am weighing up the pros and cons.....have any of you out there found yourselves in this predicament? There is no way to sugar coat the side effects of chemo but I can't decide whether the 8% improvement in the chance of the cancer not recurring is worth the risk?......I am in a real quandry...any advice would be very much appreciated. Thank you x

  • Thank you for taking the time to reply, I really appreciate it. This is the hardest decision I have had to make so far x

  • Yes, the thought of chemo terrifies me. If I don't have to have it, that would be preferable obviously. But the fact that the decision is mine makes it so hard. Thank you for sharing your experience and I wish you the best of luck with your journey x

  • Thank you for taking the time to reply. Your last few sentences have really resonated with me. Once I make the choice, I can't regret it because I know this will affect me mentally long term. Good luck with your journey x

  • Thank you for taking the time to reply. If you are being steered with these next steps, I would take them. The professionals know best and had I been advised in this way, I would be guided by them. The trouble with me is that they have not strongly advised me either way....it is normal to feel anxious, we are on a very scary journey. Take care and the best of luck x

  • Thank you for sharing, I very much appreciate it. I too want to be rid of this monster but as the percentages are lower for me, I am steering towards not having the chemo. Still talking and researching but will make the final decision on Friday. Take care, best of luck on your journey x

  • I forgot to mention that my Ki67 is also exactly 20%. Good luck with the decision. I have to make mine at the beginning of next week.
