Hi All,
I had surgery yesterday to remove a small invasive lobular tumor and sentinel lobe removal which went well but I was also told that my HER2 result had come back as positive. The tumour was also estrogen positive.
i won’t know what the treatment options are until i go back for my follow up but i am freaking out.
Any advice from anyone who has been in a similar position would be gratefully received
Hi Marietta,
I'm so sorry that you have had that news! I had very similar I had surgery for what they thought was LCIS (non invasive lobular) but after surgery they found invasive and it was HER2 positive! I had 18 weeks of Chemo, Docetaxel and Carboplatin combined with Herceptin. I finished the chemo early December and will continue with the Herceptin for 1 year as well as the hormone therapies etc.... I am about to start radiotherapy!
Your treatment plan may well be different as it is specific to the individual and I know you have said your tumor is small, but you will be on Herceptin this is a targeted drug for HER2 positive and I don't think you can have it without chemo.
Chemo tends to be hard going for a few days most cycles but manageable and they have many drugs for all the different side effects, they really do look after you.
Let me know if you want any other info from my experience. I know it's easier said than done but try not too worry yourself silly the treatments they now have especially for HER2 are better than ever before and your tumor is small.
Take care.
X
Hi
i am another who was found to be HER2 positive following surgery. I was also ER and PR positive. So my treatment plan had been surgery and radiotherapy….it changed to chemo then radiotherapy as I needed the Herceptin injections which are started off with chemo. I had 6 chemotherapy, 3 EC and 3 docetaxel. I have just finished 9 radiotherapy fractions. I have my 5th Herceptin on Tuesday. Being post menopausal I am also on letrozole for 5 years. I feel absolutely fine now. There is a lot of treatment available these days, I am glad that the nhs is throwing the kitchen sink at me !
I love this "Take joy anywhere you can."
Thank you
Hi
thank you for your reply, I am slowly getting my head around the fact that I will be chemo.
It’s great to know that you are hopefully through the worst part and feeling fine.
Were you able to continue working?
Hi
I am retired. However in my last job I worked shifts so there is no way I could have carried on at work. It also involved being outside a fair bit!
