What are the best creams or lotions to use during radiotherapy?

Hi, I've had 3 out of 15 sessions of radiotherapy and have already developed an irritating rash between my boobs. I have been using E45 lotion, but seems to get redder after applying. Has anyone got any recommendations on the best thing to use and are creams better than lotions?

  • Hi  , I think you’ll get lots of suggestions here, for my part I used Aveeno lotion mainly, plus some of the time aloe Vera  cream but I found that got a bit tacky. Does your team have any suggestions? Some folk here were advised which product to use but I was just told to use one that I knew I didn’t react to. Aveeno had been mentioned here so I got that. I was also told by the hospital team not to use anything within 2 hours of my sessions. Good luck with it all, love and hugs, HFxx

  • Hi HappyFeet1, thanks for your reply. I have heard a lot of people say they've used aveeno, so would be worth trying that. My skin has been more sensitive anyway since chemo. Have had a lot of issues with dressings after surgery. Xx

  • Moo goo . I still use it

  • I was given an excellent gel flamigel just to put on after ever treatment

    it did the job.

the hospital should give you it

    best of luck

id say just watch out for the 2 week after treatment ends fatigue/ emotional  wall . It’s a thing!!!!!

  • I will ask about the flamigel in the morning  thank you

  • Thank you, where do you buy it?

  • Hi Daisy Aloe Vera gel was what was recommended to me. It's needs to be pure aloe vera. Hope you manage to find something that suits you best.

    1. That was one of my biggest fears was skin redness and irritation as I am fair skinned and history of atopic dermatitis.  I also needed radiation to both breasts and that was 16 treatments to both and then a boost of 5 extra to the right.  I was very faithful with my skin routine but attribute my skin barrier staying in good condition to Avene Cicalfate restorative skin cream.  Even the radiation oncologist remarked on how I had very little redness.  I did have an occasional itch on breasts but used hydrocortisone and poof no more itch.  Hope you find a cream that helps as we are all different.
