Dear All, I was given a cancer diagnosis and told that is has spread to my lymph nodes. I am due to have a body and bone scan but gone into panic mode, is it common for breast cancer to spread to the lymph nodes.

Sending lots of love and healing hugs xxx

  • Hi Sparkleand shine. Yes it is very common for this to happen. They usually do a sentinel node biopsy with every lumpectomy to check for this.

  • Hi Sparkleandshine,

I had grade 2 IDC er/pr + Her2 negative 2 cm tumor that had spread to 3 out of 5 sentinel nodes.

I went into really bad place and just had so much fear, worse than my diagnosis. But I had my bone scan and CT scan and there was no spread to anywhere else. It's so easy to think the worse and I'm so sorry your feeling like this as it's truly awful!

Got everything crossed for your scans! Once all these scans and waiting for results it over it does get easier Two hearts even though I now need chemo where when diagnosed I didn't I'm in a much better place mentally!

    sending plenty of hugs Xx

  • Hi

Yes very common.  I'm due to have my operation on the 19th December to remove all my lymph nodes plus 3 cancerous lumps from my right breast.

Good luck, you'll be OK. Sending lots of healing live xx

  • Like the other replies, mine is in confirmed in one lymph node with 2 or 3 others looking suspicious. I had a CT scan first which was clear apart from two small areas on 2 of my lumbars. These were classed as low suspicion but I still needed the bone scan. The waiting was so terrifying but it was clear, the dots were nothing to worry about. Because of the lymph node involvement I am having chemo first then surgery. The waiting for results is hard but it’s important your treatment team have the full picture so your plan is right for you.
Sending best wishes for speedy scans and positive results x

  • Thank you so much for your message as I was having a bit of a panic xxx

  • Hi Sparkleandshine.

I had a tiny breast lump picked up at my annual mammogram, so tiny couldn't feel anything. They had to put a marker in to find for the operation. But I had 18 lymph nodes removed of which 10 were cancerous. Finished chemo, now taking Abemaciclib for 2 years, Zoledronic Acid twice a year for 3 years to try and protect bones, and Letrozole hormone tablets for 10 years. Will start radiotherapy in a couple of weeks.

Lots of treatment, but just hoping it doesn't return.

Good luck with your treatment journey xx

  • Hi Don’t worry it is normal they do spread a lot of the time . Mine had spread to 10 of mine I had an op two weeks ago had a full clearance of the left side.  It made me feel a lot better mentally. Please don’t worry it is normal.Talk to your surgeon you take care.

    kind wishes and love.

mine had spread to one of 4 removed. Came as a huge shock as scans showed clear nodes.

it will just change the treatment….. may mean more radiotherapy, may mean they send off your tumour for oncotyoe testing (if they aren’t certain about chemo and it fits the type). But try not to freak out (ha ha!) its “normal” and not something they really warn you is likely I think
