Hi all, I’ve recently finished treatment and was told I would be on Letrozole for 5 years, ibandronic acid for 3 years with accrete D3, and Abemaciclib for 2 years. Going on holiday soon so have managed to put off taking the Abemaciclib which I willget from my oncology day unit every month, till I get back. Went to order my regular repeat medications and the new drugs were there so I added them to my order (NHS app) l feel foolish but do I start taking them when I get my Abemaciclib ? Are they meant to be taken altogether? So I have Letrozole, ibandronc acid, accrete D3 but don’t get y Abemaciclib till the 6th October!
I started Letrozole June 2024 before my radiotherapy and after chemo and surgery ,along with Adcal D3.i started Abemaciclib in Oct 2024 as it was dealt with separately and monitored by the Chemo Unit .You can double check with your consultant ,but in my case Letrozole started as soon as I got it
I started on 150mg ,but after 6 weeks felt so rough with stomach cramps etc so had a 2wk break and was then reduced down to 100mg .This was a lot better ,just having stomach problem once or twice a week but not too severe and managed with byscopan and loperamide. However ,I was starting to get really tired and everything was an effort .Then 5 wks ago went to gp with cough that wouldn't clear .After chest xray & CT scan ,they found I had blood clot in lung as well as some scarring on lung .I've been put on blood thinners and steroids which has helped a lot and taken off abemaciclib until we know if that has caused it .I didn't have any lung problem when I had radiotherapy last August .Onco gave me choice to go back on ,but I'm not risking any more lung damage or clots until we know how they were possibly caused, so it's on hold for now . Obviously I want to do everything to stop reoccurrence but the onco said it could be that after 7 mths the benefits are starting to get outweighed by side effects
