Hi
I have my treatment plan and it is to start with EC Chemotherapy. I have been given leaflets to read about it. I will have to say I am feeling really anxious specially about PICC Line.
has anyone here has had this treatment with or without Picc line? What are your experiences and side effects?
thanks
x
I had a PICC pine inserted as I had all my lymph nodes in my left armpit removed so I can no longer have injections etc on that side. I was so anxious about it as I'm not good with veins etc, can make me feel a little faint, and I won't lie I cried as soon as I got into the room because I was so nervous. But the nurses were so lovely and I honestly didn't feel a thing, not a single thing. I kind of forget I have it too and it made getting my first chemo so much easier.
I had 4 EC two weeks apart, I’m needle phobic so opted for a picc line it was a god send once in place no worries about needles for bloods or chemo! I have very fine hair and read that fine hair very seldom stays even with cold capping so I didn’t bother, lost all my hair but it is now growing back, just ask that the last part is not pushed too quickly as you’ll feel like flu hit really fast! Also I took frozen grapes to mine to suck on during treatment I had no issue with mouth soreness or ulcers.
best of luck you’ve got this x
My oncologist is very unhappy to allow EC through a cannula. I didn’t want a PICC as I am a swimmer, but was able to get a portacath. Long story why I still have it two and a half years later, but it’s been great. No sickness on EC but it did wipe me out for a few days each cycle. The days with Filgrastim white blood cell boosting injections were the worst. It’s soon over.

Hi
I just had my first cycle of EC and I had a piccline fitted at I will need 6 cycles and blood test. The Picc line fitting was really stressing me but as I do hate needle and have no vein I did no think I had a choice. I can only say that I am please to had it done. The fitting was ok for me just sore afterwards but now I do not need to have in a treatment already invasive. please do what ever
makes you comfortable the process is already hard enough. Look after yourself
