I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2022. I had a lumpectomy, preventative chemotherapy and radiotherapy. I have since been on tamoxifen. Does anyone else experience intermittent joint pain and quite terrible lower back pain? I’m overweight but can’t seem to shift it since I ballooned with chemo. I’m lost with going back and forward to doctors

  • Hi Sanddancer

Sorry to hear that you are suffering intermittent joint pain and  terrible lower back pain while on Tamoxifen.  While I'm not on the same drug as you I noticed that you haven't had any answers yet so I thought I'd reply to you to move you to the top of the discussion.  Hopefully someone will be along shortly with answer for you.  Maybe talk to hour breast care  nurse or your chemo nurse about the symptoms you are experiencing and they should be able to help you,

    Best wishes

  • Hi Sanddancer

I have followed the same path as you except with a mastectomy instead of a lumpectomy.  Started off with a year on tamoxifen before being swapped to letrozole.  I suffered with bad low back pain/hip pain on tamoxifen that took me to the doctor who checked it out and it was all degenerative changes, no doubt exacerbated by the tamoxifen, as since I've swapped it's all calmed down.  Get it checked out if you're worried, but I'm finding one side effect disappears to be replaced by something else.  Also I think chemotherapy didn't do me any favours as any niggle/injury I ever had it seemed to highlight!  Also struggling with weight gain, never done so much exercise/eating healthily, but it doesn't seem to be helping!  Hope you get some relief soon x
