Worried lymph nodes were irradiated when they shouldn’t have been

I finished my 5 day course of radiotherapy a few days ago and as expected the area is getting increasingly pink. I can now see a very clear line delineating the area to which radiation was delivered. What’s worrying me is that this area extends into my armpit, and includes my sentinel lymph node biopsy scar. I was meant to have whole breast irradiation and nothing to my lymph nodes as they were clear. But it looks like an area has been irradiated that must have lymph nodes because one was taken from there. Is this area normally part of whole breast treatment? I wasn’t told it would go there so now I’m freaking out and wondering if they made a mistake.

    • Hi AngelC welcome to the forum. I had 20 sessions of whole breast radiation and the hair under my affected arm took ages to grow back so I believe that this area is included in whole breast radiotherapy. Just to say as well that I had the sentinel node removed as well.
