Awaiting treatment plan-tumor 12cm!

Hi, I got my results yesterday following my single mastectomy and full node clearance. The tumor was larger than expected at 12 cm which shocked me as they told me it was slow growing. I’m not sure if that was my two tumors combined though as it just seems so large (I should have asked but mind was racing).

4 lymph nodes tested positive. Surgeon said I will need traditional chemo and possible something else called CDK 4/6….has anyone else had this type of chemo and can shed a bit of light on it? I can’t find much out online.

thank you

  • Hi   sorry this is happening to you.  My tumour was 10cm, I had a mastectomy, axillary lymph node clearance then 8 rounds Chemotherapy and 15 round Radiotherapy.  I'm now on hormone treatment and Abemaciclib (CDK4&6) inhibitor.  Hope this helps x

  • Hi there, my diagnosis sounds very similar to yours and I am about to start CDK4/6 in a month or so . I am a teacher and was wondering how you find the side effects? And was wondering if you are working. I am aware that everyone reacts differently but would appreciate your experience if you are happy to share

  • Quite similar to you except grade 3 cast growing. Mastectomy found a 12cm + spread, too.

cDK4/6 has been recommended. There’s a link below. You will see that it is more often referred to here by the actual drug names.
    eg palbociclib, ribociclib, and abemaciclib

Basically it inhibits the oestrogen receptors if your cancer is hormone positive.

i hope that helps - I find it all a bit confusing, I must admit.
