Lymphedema soon after sentinel lymph node biopsy

Hello

I had sentinel lymph node biopsy last Thursday (3 nodes removed) and have been experiencing heaviness in my arm since Friday on and off. This seems a symptom of lymphedema.

I noticed some swelling too where the lymph nodes have been removed.

Is this normal and to be expected after surgery?

I'll call the nurse tomorrow morning but I'm getting concerned.

Many thanks for any shared experience

Dana

  • I wonder if it might be a little hematoma?? I had this in my boob after lumpectomy. Came on very quickly. Then had to get it drained - then all fine

    defo ask your bcn

  • I would def discuss it with your team but I am pretty sure it is too soon for it to be a sign of lymphoedema.

I’M 6 weeks post auxiliary clearance and mastectomy and my surgeon said that swelling, tenderness, fluid and bruising are all to be expected and any signs of lymphoedema don’t show for the first 5-6 months.
I’ve had a lot of weird feelings, aches and swelling since but most has died down.

I’ve been massaging and moisturising religiously since the op to try and improve my odds of avoiding it! Hope you do too!

    all the best
