Zoladex and Letrozole

Hi, I'm looking for people's experiences of the Zoladex injections, and then taking Letrozole.

I've been on Tamoxifen for a year, but due to a side effect, my oncologist is moving me onto the above treatment for the next 4 years. I'm 47 and pre menopausal, hence the Zoladex. What can I expect? I've worked hard to lose weight, eat well, walk and exercise regularly to mitigate against the Tamoxifen side effects, I'm just wondering if that'll help me out with this treatment too? Thanks for reading x

  • Hi, whilst I am on letrozole, I'm not on zoladex, so not quite the experience you are looking for. I find letrozole quite tolerable as long as I do sufficient walking to keep my joints free from getting stiff and sore. Best wishes

  • Hi, thanks so much for this. It's reassuring as I love to walk a few miles every day so I'm hoping this helps me out with the new treatment.

  • Hi! I’ve been having Zoladex injections for nearly a year now along side taking Exemestane (another AI similar to Letrozole. It will put your body into a medical menopause so expect hot flushes. I have struggled a lot with joint pain, particularly first thing in the morning. Once I’m up and about things feel a lot better.  Keep up the regular walking and eating well and fingers crossed all will be well. I’m 46 so a similar age to you xxxx

  • I take letrozole and have zoladex implant.  Hot flashes were quite regular for first month, now probably nearly 2 months on letrozole but 4 months worth of zoladex, I have less frequent night sweats and mild joint pain that settles with paracetamol.  :)    I’m back at the gym ( although I’m still having a targeted therapy, I don’t feel that these 2 drugs are too bad to manage)

  • Thanks very much for this. Hopefully I'll find it manageable then, I hope you're doing OK xx

  • Thanks very much for this. It's good to hear it settles down, I found that with the Tamoxifen. I'm glad you're managing, hope you're doing OK x
