Chemo tomorrow and some blood tests out of range - worried!

I'm due to have a 4th round of Paclitaxel tomorrow (already had 3 x EC)

I have just seen my blood results from yesterday and some of them have changed quickly over the 3 week gap between tests  and are now out of 'range' - particularly some associated with kidney function.

Naturally I'm worried that there might be some permanent damage - what can I do to improve things between now and tomorrow?

Can I be certain that the chemo will only go ahead if it's safe?

thanks

  • Hi deebee60

You try eating something that will boast your blood count for tomorrow like red meat and leafy greens.  Rest assured that your chemo will go ahead if it's safe.

Wishing you the best of luck for tomorrow.

  • I had temporary decrease in kidney function for a year whilst taking a targeted therapy for BC. When I did a blood test a few months after I finished the treatment, my function had rebounded to almost back to normal. I didn't experience it with chemo, but I hope it will be the same temporary scenario whilst your body is processing the chemicals. I'm sure your chemo team will be able to tell you if this is the case.

The advice I got from my oncologist at the time was to drink plenty of water to help flush out the kidneys.

    Good luck tomorrow x

  • A couple of mine, inc kidney function, were out of range on my second cycle. The doctor had to check me over before they gave chemo but it still went ahead. I’ve asked not to be sent any more blood test results as it just worries me - the MacMillan nurse said they check each one and it is being monitored. They won’t give chemo if it’s not safe and they can reduce your dose if needs. I think it’s common during chemo to have slightly out of range results.
