I finished radiotherapy 2 months ago. 2 weeks later I had an infected burn on my nipple. I had ABs & dressings. Then I developed a raised, itchy rash between my breasts & under my rested breast. It is driving me nuts. My surgeon recommended antihistamine. I used Clarityn, then Loratadine along with various creams. Nothing has helped. I’m now taking Piriton but still very itchy. What has helped others? I’ve used Eurax, hydrocortisone, E45 itch relief, calamine, aloe Vera. , ice packs.
Update. Dermol 500 didn’t help, although I have been using it as a wash. I went on holiday & had a really miserable time with the rash, I even stopped all my medications in case it was an allergy. I kept it covered but the intense itching became painful too. On my last night, I sat on the balcony all night with ice cold water bottles on it. When I came home I got emergency appt with GP and he gave me Lotradine cream, he said he’s sure it’s a radiation side effect allowing a fungal infection. It’s worked. 5 days into a 2 week course, it’s all but gone. I’m so relieved. I’m sleeping better and feel so much more comfortable, I even went to get fitted for a new bra yesterday ( VAT free girls!). I’m gradually adding my medications back in. Roll on summer.
I'm sorry to read that the rash made your holiday miserable but I'm glad it's gone now.
Hi,
Ive just finished 10 sessions and on the 9th I developed the rash and yes it’s driving me mad too. Glad I found this thread as I will try some of the things mentioned. As it’s only been a couple of days I’m using E45 . I’m going to get some piriton tomorrow. Is it definitely ok to put cold packs on it ? As I had read somewhere you shouldn’t use hot or cold packs after radiation ?
Thanks
Oh so sorry to hear about your rash. Skin issues are awful. I would not use hot packs and if you use cool cloths that would be ok. You have an impaired skin barrier so treat it gently. Hydrocortisone is great for rashes especially if itchy. Moisturizer too. I have very sensitive skin too so need to be careful not to use anything that is not super gentle and fragrance free. Take care and hope it clears up soon.
