Hello all.

I have had my therapeutic mammoplasty with axilliry node clearance, 5 weeks ago.

Saw new Onco with regard to follow on treatment. Radiotherapy beg in June. Letrazole now and after RT bisphosphonates and Riboclib. I cant have Chemo as Oncodx score gave only 1% efficacy.

During all the explanations etc, he declared I was cancer free as the tumours are all out! He didnt give me any pathology reports, from op or Oncodx test.

  1. This begs the question why do I need further treatment? I didn't say anything because I was in shock listening to all the years of  drugs and side effects etc. My surgical onco had explained that because of the lvi I needed treatment afterwards to stop/delay the cancer cells growing

Has anyone else experienced this? I am very confused.

Thank you for listening.

  • Hi Shmoodle

I'm Daisy53 on of the Community Champions on this forum.  The further treatment is to mop up any stray cells that may have escaped the lymph nodes as breast cancer can spread through the blood stream as well.  The Letrazole is to help prevent recurrence.

Wishing you the best of luck with radiotherapy and your further treatment.

    Best wishes

  • Thank you, yes I understood the need for further treatment, I totally appreciate you confirming it is due to the lymphovascular invasion.

My confusion arose due to the bold statement that I was now Cancer free. I was curious if anyone else had experienced this.

     Thank you daisy53

  • Hi

I agree with you that it’s a bit confusing to be declared cancer free but also told you need treatment. I am not sure anyone can ever declare with 100% certainty that someone is cancer free, even if there has been a battery of scans on which nothing shows up. No evidence of disease is the phrase my own oncology team tend to use and even then they tend to limit it to whatever they have looked at. Everything time I have a scan as a metastatic patient in remission I just get told the previous tumour sites remain stable and there is no evidence of new metastatic disease visible on the scan. I don’t think it’s growing anywhere else but time will tell! Hopefully the drugs will mean you remain with no evidence of disease.

I have metastatic Triple Negative Breast Cancer, in remission

  • Thank you so much Coddfish, that was my understanding too, that no-one could or should declare that.

Thank you for all your help and good wishes. Long may you remain in remission xx
