Hi, I’m 58 & had a double mastectomy in June last year. I’fe been taking Anastrozole since around September. My eating habits have not changed at all but my weight definitely has! Anyone else experienced weight gain taking this? The fact that I’m not sleeping either is doing nothing for my energy levels to be able to counteract the weight gain. I can be absolutely exhausted when going to bed but then just lay there wide awake. 2 hours sleep on a night is not uncommon. I’ve got a check up with my clinical oncologist in April but just wondered if anyone else has had these experiences with Anastrozole.
That's partly my dilemma. The A is reducing the risk of C returning but at what cost? My heart health? If so I'd rather stop the A...
Hi Mandino (love the name, has a Latin feel to it)
I mentioned my osteoarthritis and knees earlier while on A & bis infusion, I too have 3 numb fingertips.
the heart research I’ve not heard before but I have high bp with meds…
do you have heart issues too?
J x
Hi Jayhay. I don't think I have heart issues but the numb fingers make me wonder whether my circulation is bad. I recently spoke to the oncology team and they think it's probably carpel tunnel syndrome which is a side effect of Anastrozole. I've read research articles that state they think A can cause damage to the cardio vascular system which is very worrying.
Hi, I just jumped in to find out exactly this. I’ve not changed my diet either but in the 3 months since I’ve started Anastrazole I’ve gained another 3kilos….I’m back to exercising and not making much of a dent in it yet?? But it’s good to know I’m not the only one.
One thing I’d like to know more about is whether I can take one of these balancing herbal products which claim to control cortisol and help with these kind of issues. My oncologist suggested that not enough was known about them but I’m going to ask again in my next appointment.
Good point on cortisol. I may ask that at my next appointment. I was also wondering if it could be fluid retention but as it’s primarily on my stomach I’m not sure. I wasn’t super skinny before, just an average size 14. Now if I buy trousers I have to buy 14 & a 16 just to see what fits. I definitely become bloated once I’ve taken Anastrozole. Appreciate its all relative as I’ve had a double mastectomy without reconstruction so the flatness of my chest accentuates my stomach but some days I look pregnant!
I feel for you. It’s not having anything in the wardrobe that fits which adds to the scenario. Will update if I find any more out.
we just have to remember to be easy on ourselves after the journey we have just been on. (Definitely a note to myself!)
