Hi

I was diagnosed with 4cm grade 2 ER positive HER2 negative BC on 19th Jan 2024. I had an MRI last Friday and a second suspicious area by my nipple was found. This was not seen on mammograms or initial ultrasound.
has this happened to anyone else?

Im worried about the waiting for more tests and results and if the waiting will make the cancer bigger/spread or outlook worse.

if anyone has had a similar experience I would love to hear from you.

thank you

  • Hi Emlu,

I am sorry to hear you are going through this journey.  I was referred after finding a lump in my right breast but the mammogram picked up something in the left breast too. I had various biopsies but the left breast needed more as the biopsies kept coming back as unsatisfactory (not enough in the sample) in the meantime I already knew I had stage 3 breast cancer in the right! I did question with my breast cancer nurse regarding the time it was taking and the worry of the cancer growing and she explained that breast cancer does grow as quickly as other cancers and that my surgeon has the information in front of him and if he was worried he would not be waiting around. Rest assured once they have the bigger picture,  things move quickly. Between 8th January until the 1st March,  I have seen my surgeon twice, had a lumpectomy, masectomy and right side full lymph node removal, physio x 2, plan discussed with my oncologist and will have started chemo.

Good luck and try to remain positive during the waiting time x

  • Thank you so much for your reply. So glad that everything finally started moving for you. X

  • Hi. My mum was diagnosed in August and has so far had 3 lumpectomies. The tumour itself was very small but there was much more widespread pre cancerous cells than they first thought and while it doesn’t change her outcome, they still want to get rid of it all so she is now needing a mastectomy. The surgeon explained that the cancer was unchanged and the pre cancer cells may never grow in my mums lifetime but they like to be thorough.

  • Hi I’m in the same situation and now have to have another mri with a biopsy to check it out. I’ve been assured it’s for my own good and will help give a more accurate diagnosis. But I’m with you in feeling the same worries.

  • Hi yes they did a second look ultrasound on me too. After initially finding one tumour the MRI showed other areas of concern.

Results showed more tumours and also benign findings. So although worrying, it was a good job that further tests were undertaken or would have been missed.

Hope you get tests completed soon and then you will have the best plan for you.

    Hugs

  • Hi Emlu

this happened to me . I’ve  had a diagnosis of invasive Ductal carcinoma in my right breast grade2 . Diagnosed early January . They mammogram and ultra sound were showing different sizes so had to get at MRI which is much more detailed. Another very small area was picked up near my nipple the dr referred to it as a satellite of the other one but didn’t seem too concerned. They just see it now as important to know so they can incorporate it into the treatment plan which is to remove the cancer then give me a a breast reduction in the other breast so they are similar . This will be followed by radiotherapy and Tamoxifen. I am now waiting a date for surgery and feeling extremely anxious about the surgery . This could be a few weeks yet . I was told the grade 2 is there but not doing much in terms of spreading but needs treatment. Hope my experience helps .

  • Hello, I had a similar experience after an MRI in that it lit up towards the nipple. I then had to have more biopsies of the nipple. Like you I was worried about the cancer spreading whilst waiting for more test and consultant was very reassuring. At a point I asked them to just do a mastectomy just to avoid more delays, however they explained that the more information they had about the cancer the more targeted the treatment. In the end I’m glad I did the biopsies as no cancer was detected at nipple. Final surgery was partial mastectomy and I kept the nipple, and so grateful of the advice of the surgeon. The waiting around, the delays are very stressful but perhaps a necessary evil?
