Hi everyone hope you are having a good day x

I am post mastectomy and over half way through chemo.

My question is did you have axillary node clearance?

Pathology showed micro met in one node but didn't have clearance.

 Is this normal? Xx

  • Thank you so much for your message. I think I’ve just got myself into a massive panic about the prospect of further spread. Do you not need Chemo at all? I’m back in for my op 2 weeks tomorrow so need to try and switch my brain off between now and then. And then the 2 week wait for results… I’m hoping the fact that my lymph nodes looked ok on the ultrasound will count for something

  • Thank you for your reply. I’ve been referred for Bupa counselling through this wonderful site. I’ve also been to the drs to get some help with the sheer panic I am feeling. I feel I can cope with all of the treatment that’s needed but I’m most scared that I’ll end up with loads of positive nodes and then will have to go for a CT scan to look for potential spread. I know I’m jumping the gun but my brain has gone through all the what ifs! It’s all the waiting and wondering….

  • Hi Jane - thanks so much for your reply. I think I need to try and persuade myself that lymph nodes being positive doesn’t mean it’s necessarily spread anywhere else (fingers crossed). It’s just fear of the unknown and uncertainty. I keep looking at my children and thinking that I can’t bear the thought of anything taking me away from them…

I’ve also had to stop taking her suddenly - so am probably ridiculously emotional at the moment too!

  • Hi, I had Oncotype testing and returned a score of 9 for recurrence, I believe the threshold for chemo is above 26 if you’re over 50.

much as I don’t want chemo (who does) I can’t get the Lymphovascular invasion from my pathology out of my head…

  • I am quite scared. According to most replies on here, people seem to have had axillary clearance.

I had one micro met out of five positive.

Oh well I think my worrying is doing me no good x

  • Hi - I think micromets is different. It’s a much smaller amount in the lymph node and a lesser risk. My neighbour had this and had radiotherapy to the area. She is absolutely thriving 5+ years later on AIs. Her and her husband have been absolutely amazing listening to me whittering on about my dodgy macromets lymph node! Please don’t worry. I think this is all standard protocol. They only took one lymph node from me and because I have to go back and have a mastectomy (after lumpectomy) they are doing a full node clearance. I am so so scared they are going to find multiple affected lymph nodes…. It’s making me ill.
but I suppose we all resort to the awful ‘what if’ situation

trust in your specialists and sending reassuring hugs!

  • I'm sending huge hugs back to you.

It's all so horrible isn't it?

Thank you very much for replying it really helps xxx

  • I have grade 3 with 9 lymph node’s cancerous, in armpit collar bone behind breast an diaphragm , am on 3 rd round of chemo Tuesday an 3 more, then surgery an radiation, I’m not sure what it all means for me tbh but my 6.7 cm breast lump has already disappeared, I don’t no how it works with the lymph nodes but have scan in next couple weeks, will the radiotherapy clear rest in lymph nodes ?? Has anyone got similar to me? My is protein run not hormone , love to you all xx
