Hello, 3 years since diagnosis and cancer free. On tamoxifen and generally doing well. But the hot flushes are getting really quite bad now, I’m 53 so definitely full menopause.
I manage most of the other menopause symptoms through yoga and breath work, although have noticed alcohol and chocolate (damn it) make symptoms worse. (although I can’t quite bring myself to remove these completely from my diet)
Seems to be conflicting views on whether evening primrose is beneficial or even advisable with tamoxifen? Obviously the individual ingredients are important!
Does anyone take evening primrose? Does it work?
I will check with BC nurse, but just interested if any one has any views on this or other tips at management of hot flushes.
I felt the same for a few weeks after starting tamoxifen, but those side effects have settled down .. hopefully they will for yiu too. Good luck with the rest of your journey.. I’m three years on and doing ok.. so try to remember yiu will get through this x
Hi there. I’ve had a long journey with menopause before the cancer diagnosis. I’ve found the only non-hormonal thing which has worked for me is lifestyle changes. No caffeine after lunch, no processed food, no alcohol and just the odd square of dark choc! I’ve found exercise, in particular cold water swimming & long, hilly walks a game changer. Giving up booze has been a revalation - thought I’d miss it but I really don’t. I’m 53 too & just dreading starting the hormone blockers. I do think it’s a very personal journey to see what works for you. Mine started back up with the end of HRT due to diagnosis. I’m having to relearn and rediscover all my coping strategies. Good luck xx
Forgot to mention that. I have been going to an experienced acupuncturist near me who specialises in women’s health. She’s been treating me since diagnosis and it has made a massive difference. She’s been away last 2 weeks and so I’ve also been able to notice impact of not going. Expensive but I’ve been using the money that would have been spent on unhealthy things! Xx
Interestingly, I have really adjusted my diet since my original post. Sleeping better and less hot flushes too! I go for deep tissue massage every 4 weeks and that includes reflexology which is brilliant. Can’t quite give up the wine..but drastically reduced as it definitely made flushes worse. Hope you continue to feel well x
