Hi there
I was diagnosed with HR+ BC at end of april,
14mm tumor with 2.1mm in sentinal node ( unlucky on that extra 1mm)
I had an oncotype test which came back as 15.
Based on all this the oncologist offered me 3 options, no chemo, 4 rounds of TC and sorry not sure what the standard is but whatever the standard for fec-t is. Oncologist said he would advise his wife to go for the TC, i felt happy with that, bang bang, off we go.
Fast forward to today with my last chemo session on friday this week and during my chemo wk check in with oncology and a member of the team who i've never met, calls and as casual as anything drops into convo he's just got back from a symposium ( not my word) and the word was that 6 rounds of tc was now recommended and hed like to add a further 2 for me, particularly as ive had very few side effects.
I guess on the phone i was like oh, ok but when i questioned him he said that the studies weren't conclusive and he'd speak to his boss ( who coincidently was the precsribing oncologist). So super super confused.
Called Macmillan who were amazing and tbh i think as little bit as baffled as myself and suggested i get an appointment with the original oncoligist.
I dont really know what i want from this but its just stressed me out so much and made me queastion if i even chose the right chemo in the 1st place if theyre now having this last minute change of heart. Like what would they have done if id turned down chemo all together??? Rang me today and said oh btw new sympos goss you should do chemo.
I'm just feeling like i'm being given far too many choices for me to deal with and i'm just yearing for a paid oncologist to make a choice for me!
Thanka for letting me blurb
Xx
I really understand your frustration. I mean it's great that there is new research all the time to improve cancer treatment, but it does sound like the team member spoke without thinking. I'm glad your've spoken to Macmillan and that they could help. I guess you need to ex plain what's happened to your oncologist and take their advice. I know when I was given choices I always asked back. So what would you do. Best wishes
It is definitely difficult when you have phone consults with people other than your oncologist. I had this a couple of times and certainly first time felt awkward I would contact the oncologist secretary and ask for appointment with oncologist
Thanks both, i have an appointment with the oncologist in a few weeks which is kind of annoying cos i feel a hit in limbo til then.
It felt like such a big decision choosing wether to do chemo or not , and i guess id finally settled with my choice in my head and now im questioning it again
X
When you go for your chemo this week have a chat to the nurses. They might be able to get hold of your oncologist before you have the additional chemo
Good idea! Thanks
Sorry so deep in it this week camt see the wood for the trees
