Hi everyone and hope you are ok Slight smile

I’m due to start chemotherapy next week - anyone else?

Had mastectomy on July and this is ‘adjuvant’?

I’m nervous and sad and lots of other emotions!

  • Completely normal to be nervous particularly before 1st cycle. It's fear of the unknown. Once you have a better idea of what is going to happen it gets easier.

  • No i didnt the injections are done at hospital after i have the Docetaxel. Its 18 injections in all. Its a target therapy as it the breast cancer is her2+. I also have injections for 5 days after chemo to help with the white blood cell count my husband does these.

  • Ah ok I see. I was told will need ongoing Phesgo injections for a year x

  • Hi, I wrote this blog post about the things I wish I'd know about chemo, hope it helps Chemo tips blog

  • Perfect thank you so much!

  • Hi Jax,  this was me a year ago! I was dreading it but it’s was ok -not nearly as bad as I was expecting. I had 4 rounds of EC followed by 4 rounds of paclitaxel 2 weeks apart.  I kept a diary here which you may find useful:  Chemo Diary

Good luck with it all - once you start you will get into a routine & time will go by surprisingly quickly

    best wishes xxx

  • Oh thank you so much that’s reassuring. I know that everyone’s experience is different but like to think that I’ve been through the worst of things what with the op having being done.

Will give your diary a good read today. Hope you’re doing ok xxxxx

  • jax007 i am due masectomy  12th, is the chemo just to make double sure it takes it all away, initially they said if the lymph glands are clear, then this should be it, but not taking any thing as a given at the moment, did it take long to recover from the masectomy if you dont mind me asking, told signed off for 2 weeks after, did you need more time off, xx not had any previous experience of this disease

  • Hi Wave

Initially they found small lump back in April but then after MRI found two more one of which was HER2+. This seemed to determine the need for chemotherapy I think.

Mastectomy wasn’t as bad as I feared and recovered very well. Exercise daily to ensure mobility which is going well too.  Good news as they seemed to tell that chemo required to lessen the odds of a reoccurrence.
I’ve been off for a few months since diagnosis and have been told wouldn’t be possible to work through chemo treatment. I think everyone’s journey is so different but that’s mine so far!

Nervous and sad but trying to stay hopeful!

Good luck but you’ll be fine xxx
