Hi everyone and hope you are ok Slight smile

I’m due to start chemotherapy soon although I haven’t got dates yet.

Just got letter through post for appointment for heart scan.

Also due to receive herceptin treatment aside the chemo.

Just wondered if anyone else has had to have a heart scan before treatments?

 Thank you x

  • Thanks I get so stressed and depressed x

  • Yes I had a nuclear heart scan before my treatment just to make sure there was no heart problems

  • Hi

I had a heart scan called a Mugga scan it involved a radio active injection first, a radio active bone scan, a CT scan with contrast dye and an MRI all before my chemo. I am thankful all was clear. Except the MRI which showed up lymph node involvement). I am 2 years on and haven't had more scans other than mamagram on remaining breast but I have bloods done 6 monthly which checks bones, kidney liver and CA 15-3 which can detect cance cells. Hope this helps xxHeart

  • Yes.  I had an Ecco, like an ultrasound.  V quick and straightforward.  Before I started chemo and her Elgin and every three months.  I believe it’s because I was going to be given Phesgo which has herceptin and it can affect the heart.  I’ve had four Ecco’s so far and all have been fine.  Good luck x

  • As others have reassured you, it’s fine, it cause of the herceptin. They carry on for a year after phesgo or herceptin too, well they do here in Bucks, you’ll get one every 3 months, my next one is my last!

  • Thank you so much everyone. Nice to see that this is standard procedure xxx hugs to all

  • Hi   I had chemo followed by Herceptin my treatment plan can be seen on my profile .
I was given heart scan prior to Herceptin the one every three months until Herceptin finished .I was told it was because Herceptin can cause repairable damage to heart so they keep a check on it . I had no problems from it . Good luck with your treatment

One step at a time and ...Breathe !

  • Thank you very much Margaret.

  • Hi Jax007

yep same as others have said

…I started my chemo yesterday & few weeks before I had my echocardiogram.. never had one before but it’s fine.. like an ultrasound ..it’s quite interesting hearing all the different sounds the different valves & chambers make! It’s painless & quick & they just need to check everything ok before chemo starts ..

Your plan sounds similar to mine …

    good luck!
