Hi,
I have had one session so far of EC three weeks ago. I am supposed to be having these fortnightly. However last week my second one was cancelled due to high ALT levels. I went for bloods again today and it’s been delayed again for Another week as my levels are still too high. A liver ultrasound is now going to be arranged. Has this happened to anyone? Is this a common thing? Im so worried that my levels won’t go down and it will be delayed again next week. Im just wondering if anyone else has been in this situation and what’s happened?
I had high liver levels after chemo too - I ate mango, kale, broccoli & beetroot as these are supposed to be good “liver” foods and drank loads of water & had a coffee every day.
My liver managed to hang in in there for the rest of my chemos. Did they tell you what your alt levels were - mine were about 170 (I think) & they still let me go ahead with it - not sure what the cut off point is. Good luck with it - hopefully you can get back on track soon xx
Hey, I hope you don't mind me asking but what was the outcome of this, please? I'm undergoing chemo and have just been told that my ALT level is high. They're redoing the blood tests but I can't help worrying what this all means.
Sorry to hear your delays - I too had issues on 2 occasions and it’s so disappointing - Christmas was cancelled for me - I finally completed my final chemo on Friday but this should have been 8th Dec. At the end of the day sometimes delays are for a reason and is more of a preventative as if the levels are not right you may end up in hospital very unwell.
Hi,
I had the same after Paclitaxel, was 5 x the max(250) My oncologist said is usual on chemo and if it's 10 x higher they start worrying. Treatment delayed one week, had extra coffee, turmeric tea and my levels came down by next treatment to normal and stayed normal since.
Thank you for all your replies. You really reassured me. When I posted the initial message, I had no idea that the chemo itself was probably causing the elevated ALT so I started worrying that there was something seriously wrong with my liver.
I am really sorry to hear of the delays some of you have suffered and how frustrating and disappointing this can be.
