Hi
Can I please ask if anyone is taking topical vaginal oestrogen? I met with my oncologist today and he mentioned it as a possibility as I am struggling with vaginal moisturisers giving me BV and I am always having to dash to have a wee when I don't really need one. However it concerns me that I am taking tamoxifen to stop oestrogen so adding a topical oestrogen seems odd. My oncologist says that the tamoxifen will take care of any oestrogen that seeps into the bloodstream but I'm torn and confused! If anyone is taking topical oestrogen and can help I would be so grateful! Thanks so much!
Hi, I'm not (yet) but using Replens, which is oestrogen free, and whilst it helps for my own daily comfort, it's not ideal. My oncologist said I could talk to her about an oestrogen one as she felt quality of life was more important than the very small risk of a cream. Have also recently experienced the need to run to the loo frequently for no reason……. This whole thing really is the gift that keeps on giving. Best wishes
Hi! Hope you're okay. Thanks so much for taking the time to reply. I have tried Replens and also Yes! but sadly for me they alter my PH balance and give me Bacterial vaginosis. It's a shame as others I have spoken to rave about them but I guess everyone is different. You are so right about this being the gift that keeps on giving!! Have a good day and thanks again! S
Liz O'Riordan has info on this - if you are interested you can listen to her views on it. The general thoughts were that the dose of oestrogen is so low as to have a very small impact if any. Some women can not manage without it and for some intimacy can end without it. Its the age old risks vs benefits argument for topical oestrogen.
Hi,
Have you tried hyalofemme? I had very nasty reaction to replens. Lots of itching and discharge and even cramps. Tried others and most irritated me, but Hyalofemme didnt (it is estrogen free). However, although it's very good in terms of moistirisation it hasnt solved the other lovely issues of vaginal atrophy which I think.maybe an estrogen based cream might x
Hi Lucy
Thanks so much for this. I had never heard of Hyalofemme but have seen it mentioned a few times on these pages so will look into it. I agree tho that some of my problems are definitely oestrogen related and am just a bit anxious about trying it. Will try the Hyalofemme first I think. Thanks again! S
