Abemaciclib - low WBC again - any tips?

Hi all,

I’ve been on Abemaciclib for about 6 months and had to drop from 150mg to 100mg dose a while back due to low white blood count - was down at 0.67 so had a break for 3 weeks and it climbed back up.

I had my 8 week blood count yesterday and it’s dropped to 0.98 so have to pause again and go for bloods again tomorrow.

I feel super tired at the moment - possibly due to the medication but also possibly due to generally doing too much (Job, kids, life etc)

Just wanted to see if anyone has gone through similar with Abemaciclib and any tips for improving WBC? Doesn’t sound like there’s much I can do? Trying to rest a bit more.

thanks!

  • Hi RunAndBecome

Sorry to hear that you have a low blood count and have to pause your Abemaciclib.  While I don't have an answer fort you I noticed that you haven't had any replies yet so this reply should move you to the top for the discussion.

    Best wishes

  • I don’t think there is anything you can do, other than look after yourself as best you can. Mine dropped below 1 when I was on 150mg but has been ok on 100mg.

That said, it still goes up and down every month. A few months ago it reached the heady heights of 2.4 but was down to 1.3 the next month. Doc just said that’s the way it is…

Hoping a short break does you good xx

  • I’m on Abemaciclib too, 150mg twice daily, My WBC is at 1.5 so not as low as yours.
I read somewhere that B vitamins are important for building blood cells. I am taking “becozyme” - not sure it’s available in the UK but probably there is something similar you could get. My values went slightly up (1.7) - maybe coincidence?   I’m definitely feeling better since I started taking the vitamins. I’m trying to be physically active as much as I can too.
I discussed taking these vitamins with my oncologist and she thought it was a good idea to try. Hope this helps!

  • Thanks for all your replies

Just had a call back about my latest blood test results and it’s dropped further to 0.59 so another week off the tablets and have to go for tests again next week. Frowning2
