Hello. Does anyone happen to know if Abemaciclib is available yet in Scotland for primary breast cancer? At my last oncologist appointment I was told it wasn't available, but I'm wondering if that has changed. Thanks.

  • Hi

That is great news. I too will also be starting abemaciclib , has already been agreed but i meet with my oncologist on the 28th nov as still having radiotherapy. I live near inverness.

  • Yes thats the route i am choosing now.

  • That's great. Good luck!

  • That’s great , all the best with it xx

  • Veep, this is superb news to receive.  Thank you.  I wrote  to my consultant in Scotland immediately this morning to now be able to continue treatment at home in Scotland.  Sadly, I had to leave Scotland back in June in order to be able to begin Abemaciclib / Verzenio treatment in the US at the Mayo Clinic.  I did not want to be in a state of LIMBO nor take any chances as Abemaciclib was NOT available in Scotland in the adjuvant setting.

It has been 4 months now since taking the tablets.  We started off with a low dose (100 mg) in the morning and at night.  There were a few bouts of diarrhea in the first month but nothing unmanageable.  DIET is key !!  A good healthy diet full of fruits, vegetables, fiber, lots of water, etc.  Because I have tolerated the dosage over time well with solid blood tests - they increased the dosage to 150 mg twice a day and it's fine.  The doctor here in Minnesota is phenomenal.  Everything is coordinated.  The special pharmacy calls a few days before the end of the month to ask questions and then, the tablets arrive 2 days later by FedEx.  I wonder how Abemaciclib / Verzenio will be administered in Scotland ?  I hope it is convenient and made effortless ?

Anyway, congratulations again !!!  FYI:  The doctor here who was one of the authors of the MONARCH trials - hence leading to FDA approval for Abemaciclib for the women of the world - said that in one year they will know more.  But that it looks very promising that Abemaciclib will have a longer benefit then 4 years for zero reoccurrence.  They believe it will extend to10 years when taken with Letrozole.  He also advises taking Letrozole for 10 years instead of 7 years as advised by my oncologist in Scotland.  So discuss this with your consultant.

    Cheers. Salinte.

  • Thanks. That's encouraging to hear. And I'm already taking Letrozole for 10 years Slight smile
