Been sent to aand e for second day in row as unable to keep anything in for two days. Sat in a small room with 4 other patients am not particularly happy as told am at high risk of infection what am I supposed to do
Hi Lili72 first of all, so sorry you’re suffering so much, hopefully you will feel better soon. I can totally understand how you feel about the risk of infection, have you tried calling the emergency line you will have got when you started chemo? Explain to them your fears and how they don’t seem to take it seriously? At the very least you should be in a high risk or large ward that’s more aerated to reduce the chances of infection. X
Thanks hadn’t thought of trying the number again as they’re the ones who sent me here why does your brain go on holiday
Mixture of stress and chemo brain (that is a thing!) I hope they can help!
I had to be hospitalised after my first chemo for vomiting too - I just couldn't stop once I'd started, which is what they warn you about. They gave me an anti-sickness injection in hospital which calmed everything down and then for all future cycles, I got even stronger anti-sickness meds to take on top of the ones I was already taking. You have to take one before chemo as well as after.
I was fine with sickness after that, though still felt nauseous for about a week on EC chemo. It did make constipation even worse, so I had to take stuff for that too.
So hopefully this won't happen for subsequent cycles.
I had chemo during covid and was on quite a big ward - maybe a dozen people, But I was told it was covid-free. I was glad to get out of there though!
Agree with Shellbell24, given the emergency line a call and ask for advice. We had called that line when I had been vomiting for a while, so the hospital were aware of my treatment before I turned up, and I didn't have to go through A&E.
