Hi had my 1st chemotherapy session on the 6th January.  Managed the cold cap. I have another 3  cycles on one chemotherapy drug every 3 weeks  then switch over to another one for 12 weeks every week. Got a long road ahead, bit daunting then I think of it too much but trying to focus on one cycle at a time. Had some stomach issues, tummy ache, bit gassy and wind build up. They pack u off after each session with additional meds to take. I also had to have an injection 2nd day after chemotherapy which the nurses show u how to do it at home. This is to build white cells to fight off infections. Think this may b a regular thing after each cycle.  Managed it ok.  Not easy for any of us to go through.  The nurses were nice, came round with sandwiches and teas Tea. Quite alot of people recieved treatment in the time i was there. We r all going through it was  reassuring that I was not alone .

  • Sounds like it’s going well! It feels like a long road now but you’ll be amazed how quickly it passes. Just think, in less than 6 months it will be done!

    Good luck x

  • Hi

I had 4 X EC chemotherapy followed by 12 X weekly paclitaxel. I cold capped through every treatment. I lost quite a bit of my hair especially at the sides, but my hair was very fine to start with & it also helped with the regrowth. My regrowth started before I finished chemotherapy. I believe that the cold cap will help to retain your hair & also with the regrowth. I would advise you to stick with the cold cap.

I was completely overwhelmed with my diognosis,  treatment plan etc.. Try not to look to far ahead. Just take each day as it comes, just focus on getting through each treatment. I had quite a lot of digestive issues & fatigue/exhaustion. I also had nausea throughout my chemotherapy. I also had the injections i had to do at home with the first lot of chemotherapy. (Not the second lot of chemotherapy)You will get through your first lot of chemotherapy then move onto the next, it's a long journey but you will get there! Try to stay as positive as you can.

    All the best

  • Hi, i have my first chemotherapy session Thursday. It seems like I am the opposite to you. I am doing 1 a week for 12 weeks and then every 3 weeks for another 12. Are you doing immunotherapy as well. I am also trying the cold capp. Anything you would recommend taking to manage? Also weird one but can you pee when you have it on?

  • Hi

For the first 30 minutes of cold cap you can't move. But once the chemotherapy starts you can go to the toilet if needed

  • Thank you. I never considered it until about half an hour ago. I don't really pee much anyway but when I know I can't I suddenly cannot stop thinking about it lol

  • The 1st 30 mins u have have cold cap on , u can't move or get up but after that, let the nurses know. U can bring a book maybe to read, something to listen to, u can bring your own water bottle and maybe a blanket incase u need it. Cosy socks, any home comforts to help u.

The nursing staff normally come round with lunch bag for u and offer teas Tea & coffee Coffee️

U will b looked after. I'm at some point due to have Hormone therapy. Hope u get on ok.

  • Thank you. I have movies downloaded, music, kindle, audio books. Blanket. Slippers, fluffy socks. Do you recommend taking food as well? That is the bit I am stuck with.

  • U can bring your own snacks, maybe an energy bar. Recommend to have a small snack before treatment.  The nurses do offer sandwiches bag and can serve teas & coffees.

  • I used to take ginger biscuits. I suffered with nausea throughout my chemotherapy & ginger biscuits & Gin Gins seemed to work.

  • Ok thanks you. I will do. I feel like I need a suitcase for everything at this point. I am sure after the first one I will know. I also just realised I will be on my period by Thursday. Definitely will need extra snacks.
