Hi all was diagnosed with lymphoedema in my arm before Christmas have sleeve and glove been doing exercises and massage but now my hand has swollen I’ve got a sleeve and glove but hand is getting quite painful

live started swimming once a week

im trying to live my life as normallly as possible within reason but it’s getting me down does anyone have any tips they can give

there is only one lymphoedema nurse in my area East Yorkshire so while I can contact her she’s really busy  I’m seeing her next month

  • Hello, I’m so sorry you’re experiencing this. My breast cancer physio showed me some self administered lymphatic drainage techniques which help a lot but need to be done daily to have an impact.
I also followed some of the videos from this US based cancer physio - maybe they’ll help you too  I’ve tried pasting a link to her YouTube channel here but I think the MacMillan website is blocking it

So if you search Cancer Rehab PT you should be able to find her videos  Slight smile

I hope it gives you some relief.
    Take care xx

  • Thanks are you based in the US?

im doing exercises lymphoedema nurse showed me twice a day and drainage massage she showed me once a day but when I asked her she said don’t do anymore than that

ill have a look at videoed thanks also looking into Nordic walking

  • Hi there, I found that the sleeve with the hand part and 2 pressure made my hand swell and my armpit really sore. I wear it part of the day and swap to the 1 pressure sleeve and glove the rest of the time, and it's a bit better. Try to keep your arm up, and try the nordic walking. I do mine with the sticks around the house sometimes. Mine was triggered by a shoulder injury last october/november (rotator cuff, frozen shoulder) and seems worse when my shoulder hurts more, or just after my letrozole.

    It's miserable, isn't it:((( xxx

  • Hi, no I’m in London but I found the US rehab physio videos last summer after I had a double mastectomy and some of her exercises really helped with my recovery, so when I started getting lymphoedema I had a look at her videos to see if she had any exercises or massage.

I also see a lymphatic drainage physio who has given me exercises and shown me how to self massage which has really helped a lot too.

  • Hi what’s pressure 1 & 2 sleeves

had mastectomy and lymph node clearance November 2021 then had necrosis removed from reconstructed breast September 2022 arm started swelling 3 days later have been on letrozole since May 2022 due don’t realise that could affect lymphoedema?

  • Hi sorry just reread your message do you mean you only wear the sleeve or the glove not both at same time?

  • Ill look into it thanks

  • Wow that sounds painful. I had full node clearance, most painful thing for me. Was the necrosis due to radiotherapy? I'm due to start next Friday. X

  • It's a challenge trying to do what you did before. The new normal. Haven't got there yet. Just dipping my toe in the water occasionally. My aim is to be dance fit for Pride in August. My friend had lymphoedema, she wore the sleeve and glove. It went completely after two and half years and didn't come back. Xx

  • Aw thats great to hear I’ve been so frustrated did she do anything else apart from sleeve and glove?
