Blood test before chemo

Hi,

Today I had my first EC treatment. I've finished Carboplatin/Paclitaxel on 21st Dec. And needed rest weeks due to low WBC until now.

Today my nurse mention I had one value from my blood coming borderline and the repeated my bloods to double check it.

I asked and I didn't understand her well...she said something phosphate...I asked what was it and explained its a "vitamin"involved in different processes.

Said to drink plenty of water.

I'm worried I misunderstood and she was talking about alkaline phosphatase. This added to the fact I've been having wrist pain this whole week, and she was a bit concerned and said to see if it doesn't go away.

I need some reassurance.

I have no clue what they test on our bloods and very few times they've showed me my results.

Thanks

xx

  • HI

I'm sorry your post hasn't been answered yet.  I don't know what they would be testing for as I didn't need chemo - sorry!

I'm replying to your post now and it maybe that someone is around who knows more, but if not, it might be worth while asking the Macmillan nurse.  Here's the link

Hopefully the expert should be able to put your mind at rest.

    Kindest wishes,

    Lesley

  • Hi Nnatalia22,

My blood screen pre op picked up the same thing. My Alkaline Phosphatase was 22 range 35 to 110. I asked the Macmillan Nurse on here and she said recent research said the parameters should be set wider. Ask them.

I prob was a bit dehydrated on that day. When I asked the breast surgeon he looked in my online notes and said it was the same last year. No one told me, meaning they weren't worried I presume. I am meeting the oncologist at the end of the month. I'll see what it means them. I have bought some magnesium and zinc tabs. The surgeon told me not to worry.

I'm not worrying about that, too much else in front of it. Fingers crossed for you and me that it doesn't mean anything and if it does they can probably fix it. Xxxx

  • Ps. my wrist hurts occ, I have some osteoporosis which has improved with calcium and vit D treatment. I had a Dexa scan in Dec.
