Hi I had a lumpectomy at the beginning of December & went back to see consultant a week later who told me the cancer had not spread to my lymph nodes . I have noticed that the swelling in my breast has not gone down it feels like a bowling ball.. I just need some radiotherapy treatment which I have to start in second week of January. Can anyone give me advice on how I will feel during treatment, thanks.

  • Hi Sabrina22

The massage was offered through Macmillan they fund 3 sessions. Not all areas offer this or I guess have a trained therapist. It may be worth asking or finding a private one near you. I think a lot of sports therapists do similar. Hope that help and you get something sorted

  • Thank you, good to know that. I haven't started yet. Just working things out. Waiting for Oncotype DX result. X

  • Hope that you don’t need chemo and can start radiation treatments.  Seems like always one more test to do.  Radiation treatment gives you a feeling that your treatments are coming to an end and that is so good.  I had lumpectomy on both breasts and radiation to both and now on Anastrazole so feeling good and thankful too.  Wish you good results.

  • Thank you,

I hope so too, I just want my life back. At least it's Winter, one of my friends said, who has been through it twice. I hope our arms are still able to move well. I've got fed up of the exercises, I suppose we need to keep stretching as long as we are having treatment. Just been in carer mode for 3 days, need time to come round. Hope and prayers for deep healing. Xxx

  • Hi Barbara, how did you feel after radiation treatment? I am due to get it at end of February, seems so long since I had a lumpectomy last December.

    •   hey lovely I finished my ten days of radiation on December 28th and swam 40 lengths today, my first real swim since diagnosis in September.  The sense of accomplishment has me on a high.  I’m back to work but on a phased return of shorter days, which is still exhausting but these steps back to life and normality are really heartening.  You’ll get there, follow your body and look towards Spring Good luck x
  • Hi Sabrina, try beginners line dancing, or Zumba gold which is low impact exercises & works the arms. I was also getting tired of same exercises, if anything it lifts the spirits in the company of other woman x

  • Hi Raebelle,  Felt fine during and after radiation.  Was a little apprehensive as I am fair skinned and reactive skin too so need to be careful with products.  Thought I would get red but main issue was nipple soreness and a slight itching occasionally.  No redness just a very light pink.  Made sure to use super gentle products and  hydrocortisone for itch .  Itch went away so quick with cream.
I had 16 treatments to each breast and an extra  5 day boost to the right.  Started breast massage 3weeks after radiation treatments ended per radiation oncologist and still doing it daily.  Said initially for 6 months but when I went for appointment said to do for 6 more months.  Breasts look good and no firm areas or color change either.  Can’t tell from looking that I had radiation.  So far so good.  Everyone reacts differently.  I had my radiation treatments  this year snd completed in May.  Yeah!!

I hope you do well too.
