Hello all,
After 6 months, I finally finished my chemo. Which is great but now I am due to have my planning appointment for the radiotherapy later this week.
The standard treatment would 19 days (15 + 4 boosters) but I have been offered a 9 days (5 + 4 boosters) option. I understand that the 9 days is still experimental and they only have 5 years of data.
As anybody has been offered the 9 days and what do you think of it?
Thank you and all the best to you all.
I had 5 days with no boost, which is standard policy in my unit. The reduction from 15 to 5 days came from a clinical trial which showed no adverse issues from the reduction. I don’t think it is considered experimental. It was fine, no issues with my skin whatsoever, an obvious benefit being fewer visits.
Hello Daxy, I am not a specialist in radiation but with the shorter duration you get a higher dose of radiation at each session so you can get the right amount. I opted for the 3 week radiation to both breasts with a 5 day boost to the right. Both my surgeon and radiation oncologist had told me that the shorter course of radiation results were excellent but the 10 year data had not been evaluated. The radiation oncology place was only 4 miles away so not an issue. My skin was no issue throughout radiation except a little rash on occasion which cortisone remedied. Was faithful to my moisturizing routine too. I will see if I can find you the link about the shorter and longer radiation courses. I read this before making my decision.

here is another article https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7262592/
This article was excellent and hopes it helps you too.
Take care snd let me know if you need more information on skin care etc. Mh protocol was great as I could not use what they recommended as too greasy and my skin is too sensitive and reactive. The radiation oncologist and breast surgeon both said they were very pleased as didn’t look like I had radiation at all so was happy.
