Hi all,
I am due my 5 sessions next week, just wondered if anyone else is having treatment next week too?
I had radiotherapy on the other breast in 2013, 15 sessions plus 5 boost, so I know roughly what to expect. I’ve bought some Flamigel RT as others mentioned it.
Hope to find a treatment buddy
Hi Colette,
Thanks for replying.
It went really well last time, I was lucky to get early morning slot every day, and went to work afterwards.
I was a little burnt at the end of it, but not too bad and soon just looked like a suntan.
Have your team given you, or recommended any creams?
I was tired at the end, but it was 4 weeks.
Hope it goes well for you.
Best wishes, Karen
I've been off work for quite a few months, so hoping this all goes smoothly so I can start looking into a phased return
Hi Colette,
Last time it was left breast and I didn’t have to do breath hold, I think that is used a bit more now, not sure.
Im sure you’ll be fine, and won’t cough. They played music last time, I left it to their choice. I suppose it depends on the radiotherapy unit.
They moved my appointment to 2pm, so let me know if you’re a morning appointment how it went?
I bought some E45 too, see what they say to you tomorrow, it does vary from each radiotherapy unit.
Enjoy your weekend. Karen
Hi Karen 22 I'm due to start 4 weeks of radiotherapy on 29th August , just hoping it all goes well and to plan , my times for my appointments are good so I'm hoping they don't change this ... I have no idea about what creams to use but will ask at my first appointment...Good luck everyone x
Hi Brunette 23
Good luck with your treatment. I know 4 weeks is a long time, but when I had that length of treatment back in 2013 it flew by. It’s good you’ve got a schedule to, makes planning your life easier.
Keep in touch to let us know how you are. Best wishes, Karen
Hi Colette,
No need to worry about radiotherapy, my experience was very good and the staff were very helpful, I was really interested in how the machine works etc and the staff were happy to explain to me, they even took photos of me ready for a session so that I could show my daughter (gown on at that point lol )
I used bio oil, E 45 and Aveeno on my skin , which were recommended and didn't really have any side effects other than a warm feeling like being in the sun and a bit of an itchy area.
Keep doing the exercise though as I stopped when I had full movement but everything tightened up following radiotherapy so I had to start them again
I had 5 sessions on 3 days before the weekend and 2 days following which were longer than the sessions you have if you do the 15 day course but works just as well,
Ask about free parking for cancer patients as you can usually park for free but have to enter your reg on a tablet/ screen at reception.
I hope this information he.ps, good luck
