Antihistamine & letrozole

Following bilateral mastectomy 9 months ago I experienced a bad post surgery allergic reaction to ? glue, dressings, antiseptic wash, creams  - who knows!   As it is on-going but to a less dramatic degree I've been referred to a dermatologist who has referred me to the hospital for allergy tests  but  the  waiting list is long.  In the meantime my GP has advised I take daily antihistamines.

I've been taking Allacan - 10mg citirizine hydrochloride but it's having no impact on my hayfever which this year is worse than ever .  I've read there is a danger in rotating or mixing antihistamines & just thought I'd ask here first if anyone can advise which brand is safe to take with Letrozole?

Thanks for taking the time to read. x

PS  I've attempted to speak to our local pharmacist privately on a couple of occasions but chickened out as she isn't very approachable & as with my GP , very under pressure.

  • I doubt that they could tell you and would probably advise against it. This article (though it's American) suggests a nasal steroid or eye drops as well as one. Could you stop loratadine (I presume it's taken as an anti inflammatory for the joint pain caused by letrozole?) and take the other for a few days? I also found loratadine doesn't help my hayfever much and do that if it's bad. I also take turmeric which helps.

  • I'd definitely speak to pharmacist.  You can go anyone they more clued up on drug interactions.  There's a stringer antihistamine tablet Fexofenadine which might help,  I also take Rhinocort nasal spray for my hay fever.

  • Thanks for the advice. It's much appreciated. xx

  • Thanks Carol,  I'm anxious about interactions so I think I'm best chatting  to the pharmacist about the antihistamine as you suggest but will give the nasal spray a try. xx
