I had a lumpectomy 2 days ago I have a drain in my right side breast with a sentinel node removal. There is nothing going into drain and this has been like this for 2 days. BCN said it looked normal but I have more numbness in my right bicep top of arm. Pins and needles is this normal.
Hi Geordiegirl
Thanks for replying , did you as others have done take off your dressings or did you seek advice first. I'm desperate to get rid of drain but I'm only 4 days in and it's still enough liquid to warrant it staying in.
I have been doing exercises and can move it just sore when stretching into clothes.
I haven't heard anything from consultant just that it was cancer in nodes and she took them out. I wasn't expecting this as she said it looked clear on biopsy and HER2 neg but ER po.
I'm just praying it's all gone and I won't need more surgery.

I’ve changed my dressing but haven’t dared leave it off. I just got paranoid about the fact that I couldn’t wash my armpit for 2 weeks so have been showering and washing gently.
My consultant didn’t put a drain in she doesn’t seem to think they are needed so I’ve not had that issue but maybe give them a call to check what you can do. I have just tried to keep my stitches dry basically.
I’ve got my post op appointment on Wednesday so I think I’m going to leave everything covered until I get there.
Good thinking I will ask nurse tomorrow what I can do. I've had a sort of shower but not my right shoulder or arm yet. Just wiped it with a flannel. It's still very bruised and sore but with the drain in I don't want to take the risk.

I left mine on for 2 weeks as I tried to take it off and a little of the scar decided to bleed. I think a sscan was attached to the dressing! When my surgeon took it off and looked at it she was pleased.
I am now 3 months post lumpectomy and 8 lymph’s being removed. Although scars feel fine my bingo wing still feels a bit numb and it may be like this for life. I live with it and tend not to touch it too much. Everyone is different so yours may be ok just give it time.
Your a warrior and that’s what matters most xxxx
I had just the same ( no drain ) my entire under arm was numb and down into my arm ... this got a little more pins and needles after a few weeks ... and now it's about 5 weeks and it's getting better. Doesn't feel normal yet but very slowly it is improving...so don't worry just give your body time to heal.
