Hello I am due to start 6 monthly zoledronic acid infusions next week and I am feeling very anxious about the possible side effects. I had such a bad time during chemo the side effects were horrendous some I'm still dealing with and just wanted to hear from other cancer patients on how you got on with this intravenous treatment and if you have any tips on dealing with the possible side effects. I would really appreciate your advice. Thank you xx
Hi, I have had 1 so far. The day if the infusion itself was fine, but I had flu like symptoms the following day, it this lasted only about 12 hours. Next time I think I will take paracetamol from the day of infusion to try and prevent symptoms. Hope this helps, good luck x
Oh that's so good to hear thank you. Good luck with your recovery xx
Thank you glad the side effects have been fairly mild. Good luck with your recovery xx
Hi BronteMaggs
I’ve nearly at end of infusions num.6 in June YAY! End of 3yr of treatment .SE all manageable as others have said bit achy flu like feelings also on occasion bone pain as if it found weak area to work .
Aso had mild gum ache similar to sinus pain but all only for couple of days so no problem .
seems like a long haul to begin with but it soon passes
I've had 2 so far and the first one I had no side effects that I noticed. I was still recovering from main treatment though so anything on top might have jus been absorbed by general tiredness!
For my 2nd one, I felt very slightly tired but the most noticeable thing was that my mood was low for a few days - grumpy, short-tempered and anxious. It passed quickly though, and there was no other explanation for the low mood.
I didn't have any aches or pains or 'flu like symptoms.
I had my first treatment just over two weeks ago. I couldn't get out of bed the first week with flu symptoms, aches all over, nausea, headaches etc. I spoke to my consultant about it today and straight away she said I don't need to take it again, as it's benefits are negligible. I feel so relived because I was ready to argue that I should never have it again.
Thank you I'm am very anxious about having intravenous treatment because my chemo side effects were really difficult to cope with glad you are coming to the end of your treatment ring that bell :) xx
Thank you good luck with the rest of your treatment xx
Thank you I can understand your decision , my chemo experience with the side effects was so bad that I stopped the chemo treatment and went onto radiotherapy. I'm still trying to cope with the long term side effects of the chemo and that's why I'm so anxious about having intravenous treatment again. I'm hoping I don't get the side effects that you have experienced because I had three months of that with the chemo, the nausea every day all day was the worse as well as the stomach cramps. I hope you feel better soon xx
