Hello, I'm having PICC line inserted Monday, and my Ist Chemo on Wed....already had the lumpectomy and full auxiliary clearence back on 13 December....having 3 or 4 cycles of EC then same on Docetaxol...have seen this mentioned on quite a few post's
I'm as OK as I can be on getting clued up re the treatment and side effects however I can't find a lot on here about how to self inject Steroids at home....I am familiar with the Pen type injections as I use them for Methotrexate injections weekly..now stopped them as per oncologists advice...when I mentioned my anxiety re steroid injections he said its not as fancy as the pen ones!!!
so now I have visions of holding up a needle and flicking it until the bubble or whatever has gone....and I really don't want that responsibility!!
Can anyone enlighten me or will I just have to hope a bubble doesn't get me....
Thank you in advance....any info is better than none x
Hi! I wasn’t given steroids to inject, they were either IV or tablet form but I was given GSF or filgastrim to inject. They were very simple, pre loaded, yes you do just squeeze it up to get rid of bubbles, then it’s a plunger with automatic needle retraction, was very simple and I didn’t have issues injecting myself. You and I talked before, they took me off my MTX too x
Hi! I remember, you said the Chemo will blast the PA we have...lets hope so...thank you for replying, sounds a bit similar to the metrojet pen then , just get rid of bubbles.....I have my chemo chat on Monday after PICC ..Omg I'm learning the jargon! I like your words very simple, I hope you are doing well ...my anxiety is creeping up a bit but to be expected xx
Soon you’ll be an expert! It’s amazing how what you know changes so drastically so fast! If you’re anything like me, the more information you’re given, the less the anxiety, I feel so much better when I’ve had it spelled out warts and all. I’m ok that’s just had my mastectomy with diep and axillary sweep, not at my 1998 best but not too bad, they say I’m doing very well x
Hi, I was nervous the first time I did this but it was fine. The instructions were clear and simple and the needle retracts automatically so you know it's all gone in and you're not going to stab yourself, or anyone else. Good luck
hey thank you hopefully anyone else in same boat can feel a little less anxious too. I have been reading your posts ..everything is sooo useful to everyone xx
my lumpectomy was of no bother but not going to lie the auxiliary clearance I didn't love! Still got swelling and numbness surgeon said 3 months to sort. Well done for getting through op, deep breat that's that out of way, try and rest and spoil yourself xx
Thanks, if you feel up to an amusing injection story, check out this blog post of mine. It wasn't my best day
