Hi. I have secondary breast cancer and in 2019 I had chemotherapy, a right mastectomy and 15 lots of radiotherapy.  Since then I have herceptin and pertuzumab every three weeks which I have to have for the rest of my life.   I have nerve damage which has been caused by the chemotherapy and the treatment I currently have but it’s getting to the point where the itchiness and burning skin is becoming unbearable.   I have tried lots of creams to soothe my skin, antihistamines and take amitriptyline to help me sleep.   Does anyone else suffer with this and has anyone found anything to sooth the pain and itchiness?

    1. Thank you for this information.  I will speak to my oncologist again about it.  The worrying thing for me is as I have to stay on treatment to control the cancer, the damage may never ease and it could get worse.   I did have lymph nodes removed so it’s likely I wouldn’t be able to have anything done on my right side like you said.   Thanks again x
  • I’m so glad you are now able to walk, the pain can be so bad at times.  I will speak to my oncologist again to see if there is anything else they can suggest to help me. Thank you x

  • Hi, I have a friend who has been through breast cancer and is very committed to holistic health and integrative medicine. I know she has mentioned to me that some mushrooms called Lion's Mane mushrooms (which can also be taken as a supplement) can be helpful with peripheral neuropathy. This isn't something I've tried myself and would suggest you either do some research or get some specialist advice if this may interest you. I've been watching and waiting to see what will happen next with my tingly feet and now fingers. Really hope you can get some relief, xx

Hi Angelk I had twelve sessions of chemotherapy then a mastectomy and Lymph node clearance plus 20 sessions radiotherapy. I am currently half way through 8 cycles of capecitabine. I have had quiet a bit of itchiness and burning and some pain. I was really worried that I was still experiencing these symptoms but following  some research I seem that this is not unusual. I started keeping a diary and rate my day, this has helped me realise that things appear to be improving. I used a cream with aloe vera in which I found soothing.
