We've created a new thread for radiotherapy discussions.

Please do let us know if you have any other threads you think would be useful to link here.

  • Re the petroleum jelly…. I would gently dab off any excess and leave the rest to absorb.

I think you will make your skin more sore if you keep washing.

Very thick layers of cream aren’t ideal before treatment so definitely apply it a couple of hours before your treatment.

It also makes it easier for the radiographers to position you if you aren’t too greasy!

    Have a good day

  • Thanks@Daisy53. It's all go! Had Port removal today. Nil by mouth from midnight. I was told they would probably do me first. Arrived 8:30... Didn't happen until almost 1pm. Hey hoh. Done now. But a rather long tedious day. Going to celebrate end of radiotherapy ( plus port removal) with a nice lunch out tomorrow. No cooking, no washing up and a few naughty calories. LOL

  • Thank you so much Exraygirl. Is some part of axilla included in the chest wall radiation?

  • it will be the lower part of the axilla isn’t it?
thank you sooo so much. They said they removed the top nodes, so they said they won’t do the actual armpit.
so normally with positive nodes don’t have to do the whole arm or the armpit?

  • In your initial message to me you indicated that the radiographers told you there was going to be treatment up to the bendy part of the armpit so in effect that is what they plan to do.

As I said to you before you are best to discuss the radiation field placements  and which nodes are included with your oncologist, radiographers or breast  care nurse because I don’t have any of your clinical  information and cases vary from person to person.

I don’t want to confuse or mislead you in anyway so please contact your team for further information.

    Take care

  • I so wish others would explain in the way you do. Sadly the Breast Cancer Nurses, though good on practical things (eg emptying out drains) removing dressings, just never explain these things, or you get conflicting info. as there are several in the hospital breast clinic I attend, and Surgeons leave them to explain.

  • Hi

I suppose I’m used to explaining in practical terms. I think sometimes patients can get hung up on a word or phrase and then miss the rest of what’s being said so I always tried to simplify stuff and deliver it in bite sized chunks.

My breast care nurse is useless…. We had a big falling out before my surgery as she didn’t organise the things she was supposed to and delayed the process and I voiced my opinion and she hasn’t contacted me since!

Luckily I don’t need her and everyone else I’ve been involved with has been great.

How are you doing today? Are you feeling better?

Hope you are on the mend x

  • Thank you exray girl. They constantly are giving conflicting information. This time round they said they will be doing the chest wall, but the lower part of the axilla is included. They don’t want to do the top part as apparently they already removed some nodes from there. And as it’s 2 nodes positive they don’t want to do the neck/clavicle region.

I agree. Mums nurse is very useless as well. When we attended the oncology appointment they had also thought clearance was done already. So it had to be taken to t he mdt again, but they did book the ct planning just incase they wanted to go that route. Till the very last day I didn’t know whether it was radiotherapy or surgery- although I kept calling asking to speak to the nurse, didn’t get back until 5pm. Luckily the plan was to go ahead with radiotherapy as I wouldn’t have even been able to cancel that appointment. She was also meant to call me on Thursday after the mdt! So I still ended up chasing.
