I have 30mm IDC grade 3 in left breast ER+. Hospital pushing me for lumpectomy, radiotherapy and letrozole. I have been told I can have a single mastectomy. They are reluctant to do double mastectomy which is what I really want. Feeling very confused right now.
I had a double mastectomy because of the size of my breasts - was a 42H. Originally it was lumpectomy and reduction on the other breast but the it became a single mastectomy and no reduction or restructuring. In fact Pandemic actually put it on hold with no movement until I got my MP involved. I was offered a double mastectomy because I argued I would get back pain if only one was removed. I am more or less happy to be flat, I resent the spare tire I have acquired but basically am fine with what I got. I also had no drains! I am in my 70s and if you are younger you might not be so happy with such a drastic change of body shape. Good luck with whatever you opt for but be aware you might have a fight on getting them to remove a healthy breast. X
Hi Daises,
I feel with you,
I was told my treatment is single mastectomy followed by chemotherapy, still awaiting HER results ( I have one 20mm the other 25 mm each different ER, plus other smaller findings in same breast via MRI).
I want double mastectomy with immediate reconstruction as I am only 37 and don't want to look in mirror in one boob which is mine and the other reconstructed, I want them matching, if anything, (NHS obviously doesn't want to go that direction, so next are genetic test, I will have chemo first then surgery.
Bit worried about loosing a little time against cancer, but I think we should be granted what we actually want, as is very sensitive matter.
Stay strong
Wish you all the best to find right solution
Thank you for your kind reply. It helps to know there are such caring people out there. Symmetry feels important right now but I’m realising it’s more important to concentrate on removal xx
Thank you for your kind reply. It helps to know there are caring people out there. I’ll take single mastectomy for now. I have been offered contra lateral at a later date. I guess symmetry is the least of my problems. All the best xx
