Hello lovely ladies, has anyone experienced a radiated neck after treatment? I wasn’t told this would happen or that I would need to apply the cream to that area. I’m now 5 days post treatment and my neck is really pink and sore and my throat is sore when I swallow.
As I only had one positive node I thought the radiotherapy oncologist said she wouldn’t take the treatment as far up. So is this normal?

  • Hi

I also had 1 node that came back positive. Radiotherapy was done on my collar bone my neck was pink and my throat was a bit rough for a few days also suffered a burn on my chest area got cream from GP for that and it’s cleared up. I just kept moisturising with aveeno and it’s fine now. Keep an eye on it any concerns you have speak to the radiotherapy nurses.

    Take care

    1. Hi as someone who is now 4 weeks post radiotherapy to my l. Breast, I would say give your radiotherapy team a call to put your mind at rest, I've found that the skin reaction  that I got directly after treatment which was mild, but a pink sunburn type reaction to my breast I still have 4 weeks later, my nipple is still tender too and my underarm is a little more stiff so still doing the exercises and applying the flamagel I was told things normally settle down 6-8 weeks after treatment. Hope this helps a bit... Good luck x
  • Hi Beyoncepower

I am 5 weeks post RT. I had RT to one boob and axilla area after lumpectomy and positive node. My RT went as high as two fingers width above my collarbone and  down to last rib down the midline of my chest. The skin turned a nice suntanned colour, so the irradiated area could clearly be seen. When my onc and surgeon examined me, each time they always had a feel along the top of collar bone, as well as boob and axilla.

There are a row/chain of lymph nodes around the base of neck in this area you describe.

Glad to have had had RT to all the areas most likely to have local recurrence - hope that this will prevent the B***** returning!

    Al the best to everyone

  • Hi  thanks for your response. It does make sense, I just wish I’d been told. Now slathering myself in Zerobase to minimise the pink Two hearts

    Glad you’re recovering well x

  • Hi  thanks for your answer it’s really reassuring to hear that you’re a wee bit pink and tender too. I came home today to a letter for a check up with the radiotherapy oncologist on Friday so I’ll raise my concerns then. This journey is never ending huh?! Good luck and best wishes x

  • Thanks   I’m sorry you had similar issues to me. But great to hear you’re well on the mend. I’m having a chat on Friday so that should help with all my anxiety. Best of luck xx

  • Hi my was the same but recovered well.i did have more nodes with it than you but had them all removed. I think they like to treat whole area, which I was happy to have. I just put E 45 on as I was advised.
