Hi, I recently had a stereotactic biopsy for calcification. I’ve had to chase up my results, all I’ve been told by an admin lady is that I’m going to get a call from radiology for an appointment. That’s it I know no more.

Does this mean they found something cancerous in my biopsy?

  • It sounds like they want further imaging or maybe further biopsy under imaging. Doesnt mean its definitely cancer but probably suspicious on account theyve done a stereobiopsy. Think i would ring the Breast clinic and ask to speak to a breast care nurse for clarification as the secretary wouldn't be able to give any diagnostic information. The BCNs are usually happy to discuss things with a bit more detail. Xx

  • Hi, thanks for replying, it was the breast clinic I phoned and expected that if something was suspicious she would have arranged to have someone speak to me. I think I might ring back.

  • Id ring back and ask to speak to a bcn or for one to call you back. There might be a direct number they could give you. Xx

  • I have called the clinic back to speak with someone clinical, they’re not allowed to give biopsy results over the phone! However, the lady I spoke to is going to make sure that radiology ring me today.

  • At least thats some progress. Hope you get a call xx

  • Thankyou, we really don’t need all this when already worried.

  • No definitely not! Sometimes no information is better than bits they cant fully explain at the time. Xx

  • Well, nobody rang Disappointed

  • Thats so disappointing Disappointed really leaving you in limbo! I know you spoke to the breast clinic again but was it a bcn you spoke to?

If not It may be worth looking at the hospital website and see if there is a direct number for bcn. I know they can give you more information than the admin staff. Worth a try if radiology dont ring you tomorrow xx

  • They wouldn’t let me speak to anyone clinical as the we’re in a meeting or with patients, that’s why was  promised a call back. I don’t have a specific named nurse ( hopefully I don’t need one!) I explained how worrying this all is as I have been waiting two weeks for the biopsy to come back, now nobody is prepared to give me any more information when they need to see me again. Also they won’t give me the results over the phone. I know they do their best and are short staffed, but I worked for the NHS for 20 years and would ever have ignored a worried patient in a breast cancer clinic.

So I’ll start again in the morning.

Im at my dentist tomorrow quarter of a mile from the hospital, if I don’t get any joy I will physically go in.
