Morning all
so I’ve done 9 weeks EC and was a breeze compared to Docitaxel
anyone got any tips on how to make this chemo more survivable? Kicking my arse at the moment. Weakness, pain, nausea , light headed, everything tastes foul, mouth tastes foul
tips welcomed
thank you
Hi Wildlifelover
Sorry to hear that you are having a hard time with side effects. Drink plenty of fluids to flush out your system. If you don't feel any better in a couple of days ring your chemo ward and they be able to suggest something to help with the side effects.
Hope you feel better soon.

Hey daisy
thanks for this. Trying to but everything tastes disgusting including all fluids. Will try more tho. Gonna contact chemo mad see if can reduce dose for next treatment as dreading it already if it’s another one like this?? Do you have any experience with people requesting a lower dose??
Hi Wildlifelover,
I'm sorry you are feeling so rough on Docetaxel. I can relate to the horrible mouth, taste etc. I also had terrible muscositis with my second and third dose. For my last dose my oncologist reduced my dose by 10% which made a huge difference to my mucositis symptoms. I still had some horrible taste buds but I did feel better.
I hope your next treatment is more bareable x
I haven't had any experience with asking for a lower dose of chemo. However there's no harm is asking and usually an oncologist will lower the dose to help with the side effects once they know how bad the side effects are.
I sympathise with you so much. I had docotaxel first, and then EC. different side effects, EC was worse - but wonder if thats because already depleted by first chemo drug.
I found one of the hardest things with docotaxel is that taste - and that I couldnt guzzle water even though I wanted to and of course you are told to drink lots. after exhausting every drink known to man I finally found that oasis (blackcurrant only!) was the only drink I could get down and tasted ok. just in case it helps you x
I had a dose reduction on Paclitaxel to try to stop the neuropathy I was suffering from spreading further. It’s quite common I think. Also if you talk to oncology about all your side effects you may find they can give you something to help. The effects on taste are I think one of the worst aspects. I remember drinking a lot of ginger and lemon tea and eating a lot of lemon desserts because lemon was one of the few unaffected things.
